Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Credit Risk professional to join our Risk Management team. This role will primarily focus on managing the credit risk associated with the Bank’s SFC Type 1 regulated activities, including but not limited to Securities Margin Financing, Lombard Lending, and related derivative transactions. The successful candidate will ensure that business growth aligns with the Bank’s risk appetite while strictly adhering to the regulatory requirements set by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).
Key Responsibilities:
Credit Assessment & Approval:
Conduct comprehensive credit risk assessments, due diligence, and approve credit limits for clients engaging in Type 1 businesses (e.g., Margin Financing, Wealth Management credit products).
Evaluate counterparty credit risk and establish appropriate trading limits for institutional clients and financial counterparties.
Collateral & Margin Management:
Formulate, review, and regularly update the acceptable collateral list (e.g., equities, fixed income, mutual funds).
Determine and dynamically adjust Financing Ratios (LTV / Margin Ratios) and concentration limits based on market conditions and collateral quality.
Daily Risk Monitoring:
Monitor daily financing exposures, account leverage levels, and collateral value fluctuations.
Oversee the margin call process and, when necessary, initiate or approve force liquidation / close-out actions to mitigate potential credit losses.
Policy Formulation & Regulatory Compliance:
Draft, review, and maintain credit risk management policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the securities business.
Ensure all operations strictly comply with the SFC’s Guidelines for Securities Margin Financing Activities and relevant HKMA supervisory requirements.
Portfolio Management & Stress Testing:
Conduct regular stress testing and scenario analysis on the securities financing portfolio.
Prepare and present comprehensive credit risk analysis reports to Senior Management and the Risk Management Committee.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Act as the key contact point for Risk Management, working closely with Front Office, Compliance, Operations, and IT.
Provide risk advisory on New Product Approvals (NPA) and contribute to the enhancement of risk management systems.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Risk Management, or a related discipline. Professional qualifications such as FRM, CFA, or CPA are highly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of solid experience in credit risk management within a bank, securities brokerage, or wealth management firm.
Proven track record in handling Securities Margin Financing, Lombard Lending, and/or derivatives risk management.
Knowledge:
Deep understanding of Hong Kong financial markets and various financial products (Equities, Fixed Income, Funds, Derivatives).
Familiarity with SFC Type 1 business operations, with strong knowledge of HKMA and SFC regulations regarding credit risk and securities financing.
Core Competencies:
Excellent quantitative analysis skills and commercial acumen, with the ability to balance risk control and business growth.
Strong resilience and the ability to make prompt, accurate risk decisions during periods of high market volatility.
Languages & Skills:
Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese).
Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel (VBA), Python, or SQL is a strong plus.
