Job Summary

The Financial Controller will oversee all financial operations of Runway 1331, ensuring sound financial planning, reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This role plays a key part in supporting the hostel’s strategic goals through effective budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Financial Management & Reporting
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, statutory requirements, and internal policies
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and funding requirements
  1. Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Develop annual budgets in collaboration with department heads
  • Provide financial forecasts and variance analysis to support decision-making
  • Track performance against budget and recommend corrective actions
  1. Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Establish and maintain robust internal control systems
  • Coordinate audits and liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies
  • Ensure compliance with tax, legal, and financial regulations
  1. Operational Support
  • Provide financial insights to support hostel operations and strategic initiatives
  • Review and approve procurement, contracts, and capital expenditures
  • Support cost-efficiency initiatives and sustainability-related financial planning
  1. Team Leadership
  • Supervise and develop the finance and accounting team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement

 

Education Level

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is mandatory, CPA or equivalent preferred. 

- A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is preferred. 

 

Field of Study

- Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related disciplines. 

 

Area of Experience

- Minimum 8 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a senior financial leadership role. 

- Experience in project-based financial management, particularly in the hospitality, youth development, or nonprofit sectors, is highly desirable. 

 

Other Professional Qualifications/Technical Skills/Knowledge Required 

- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP). 

- Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. 

- Expertise in financial systems and software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms). 

- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. 

- Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CFA are highly desirable. 

- Familiarity with grant management and donor reporting is an advantage. 

 

Language Proficiency

- Fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
