Legal Counsel, Trade Finance and Banking (Legal & Compliance Department)

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Legal & Compliance Department to provide prompt, professional and high quality legal advice to all relevant units to protect the Bank’s business and reputation
• Provide day-to-day legal advice to business, operations, and risk teams on trade finance transactions and products
• Draft, review, and negotiate trade finance documentation (including but not limited to LCs, guarantees, indemnities, participation agreements, security documents, factoring agreements where relevant, and standard terms)
• Support product development and documentation standardisation for trade finance solutions, including factoring and digital trade initiatives
• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of banking agreements including fund/trust related documents, loan and security documentation and other documentation relating to the businesses of the Bank

Requirements:

• Qualified lawyer in the Hong Kong SAR with minimum 3–6 years PQE in banking & finance / trade finance, ideally with in-house bank or top law firm experience
• Hands on experience in handling Letters of credit and bills of exchange, Credit and non- payment risk insurance, shipping and trade documentation, Export and import credit arrangements, Pre-payment and limited recourse financing, Receivables finance, Transfer of receivables and forfaiting and payment guarantees and independent payment undertakings
• Familiarity in the preparation of banks’ legal documentation
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, self-motivated and capable to accomplish tasks independently within deadline
• Great sense of ownership and servicing mindset to ensure efficient and effective solution generating processes
• Responsive, problem solving, creative, logical decision-making and analytical abilities
• Proficiency in Cantonese, Mandarin and English
