Principal Responsibilities
Impact on the Business/Function
- Contribute to asset liability management for all HSIC’s shareholders and policyholders funds, in particular in the development and review of Strategic Asset Allocation to optimize the risk/ return profile, having regard to:
- HSIC's investment strategy;
- the return targets, risk appetite and risk limits;
- the profile and sensitivities of the projected cash flows to be received or paid on the asset and liability sides (mismatch risk);
- the impact to regulatory capital, economic capital, tax and accounting of the recommended strategies;
- any regulatory requirements such as IFRS17 and HKRBC
- Support on recommendation and implementation of appropriate investment strategies.
- Support the maintenance of a sound investment risk framework for all investment risks and ensure corporate governance standards are met.
Customers / Stakeholders
- Deliver fair outcomes for customers and stakeholders, and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets
- Manage relationships with Investment, Finance, Product, Risk, Group Insurance and other areas in relation to the investment matters
- Keep abreast of global developments in the capital and insurance market and changes in regulatory, actuarial and accounting regime, particularly in relation to insurance investment management.

Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Manage the processes, infrastructure and resources needed to deliver agreed team plans and targets, identifying and implementing improvements and collaborating with colleagues to maximise end to end integration, effectiveness and efficiency.
- Maintain a robust and efficient control environment across RB&W to ensure good operational, financial and project management and compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of a management information, analysis and reporting framework that supports and informs timely and effective business management and decision making at all levels.
- Implement and monitor the application of investment strategy, effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure corporate governance standards are met and a sound control framework is in place for investment matters.
Requirements
- University graduate
- Five to ten years of industry experience
- Fellow of a recognized actuarial organization an advantage
- Strong Prophet modeling skills, stochastic modeling techniques an advantage
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Practical experience using Excel VBA an advantage
- Strong investment and derivatives knowledge, CFA an advantage
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to think “outside the box” and conceptualize solutions to complex issues
- Practical experience of investment & ALM in an insurance context an advantage
- Excellent communication skills
