Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team, supporting our Financial Markets division across Asia, with a particular focus on Greater China and North Asia (GCNA). This role requires an individual with deep expertise in financial markets law and regulations, to provide, and manage the provision of, advisory, structuring and execution legal support to all Financial Markets businesses and functions in Asia, with focus on the Greater China and North Asia region (GCNA).
Key Responsibilities
- Advising Sales, Structuring and Trading regionally in all asset classes: including but not limited to FX, Rates, Credit, Commodities & Equities derivatives, Structured Credit (including ABS Trading) and Structured Financing/Funding, whether in OTC, security or other wrapper forms.
- Providing support to COO, Sales and Trading with respect to global and local reform initiatives (including, but not limited to, bank resolution, margin reform, IBOR reform, China netting).
- Providing legal support for Asia, in particular GCNA, strategic initiatives such as renminbi internationalisation, bond/swap connect
- Supporting and implementing applicable Group legal standards, practices, and requirements.
- Providing input and recommendations for internal governance forums
- Engaging with and contribute to regional industry bodies (e.g., ISDA, ASIFMA) on Asia, in particular GCNA, market initiatives.
- Working in close collaboration with CIB Legal and other Legal colleagues, as well as other functions supporting the FM businesses.
- Supporting process ownership and escalation by Legal for Operational Risk Framework issues in the Asia, in particular GCNA, region.
Skills and Experience
- In-depth knowledge of financial markets regulations and practices in Asia, with a focus on GCNA.
- Experience in Global Markets and derivatives work is a key requisite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical and commercially sound legal advice.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Chinese language proficiency (spoken and written) a priority.
Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5-10 years of post-qualification experience in financial markets law, preferably within a top-tier law firm or financial institution.
